In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Governor Murphy's Executive Order No.130 permits the municipalities to extend the grace period for the second-quarter property taxes due May 1, 2020 to be received no later than June 1, 2020. On Monday, May 4th, the Township Committee of the Township of Green Brook passed resolution 2020-05-04 which extends the grace period for May 1, 2020 tax installment to June 1, 2020. No interest shall be assessed on tax payments received by the close of business on June 1st. Any outstanding balances after June 1st will be subject to interest calculated to the original May 1st due date, per state law requirements. Please note that this resolution does not change the due date of the 2nd quarter tax bill, per the Governor's Executive Order, it extends the grace period (which is normally 10 days) until June 1st. The Township undertook a review of the fiscal implication of extending said grace period, given the Township’s obligations to make quarterly payments to Somerset County no later than May 15, and monthly payments to the Green Brook Board of Education and found that even with these obligations and with the cooperation of the Green Brook Board of Education, that the extended grace period was in the best interest of Township residents. The Township Committee recognizes the financial strain that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on so many families and desires to assist properties owners through providing additional time to make payment of their tax obligation. The Township asks that if you have the funds available to please make a payment at this time and that if you wish to make a partial payment and need assistance, please contact the tax office (see below).
