The Open Space Committee works with the Planning Board and the Township Committee in an effort to preserve land in Green Brook Township. The group meets monthly to discuss issues that affect the Township’s Open Space Plan and periodically assists in the revision of the Master Plan. Green Brook residents have repeatedly approved, through referendum, one of the most aggressive open space programs in the state of New Jersey. It is the goal of the Open Space Committee to execute this strategy and preserve one of the most valuable resources the Township has, its land, character, and environment.

Novembers Ballot INTERPRETIVE STATEMENT for Open Space
A “yes” vote extends the Open Space Trust Fund for an additional ten years.
Green Brook’s highly successful Open Space Trust Fund, which was established in 1998, has been used to acquire, develop, and maintain land for conservation, historic preservation, and recreation. In addition to enhancing the natural beauty of the community and preserving environmentally sensitive areas, the Trust Fund has reduced development, limited congestion, and lowered financial pressure on the Township’s school system.
The reauthorized Open Space Trust Fund will be used for additional acquisition, development, and/or maintenance of lands, easements, development rights or other interests in real estate; a match for grants for the acquisition of interests in real estate; or as payment of debt service on indebtedness issued or incurred by the Township for the purpose of preserving or reclaiming land as open space for conservation, historic preservation, and/or recreation. For every $100,000 of equalized assessed value, the tax would be $15.00 per year.
