Municipal Drug Alliance sponsors guest speaker Chris Herren
The Watchung Hills Regional Municipal Alliance (WHRMA) invites you to attend REBOUND: The Chris Herren Story on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018, from 7:00-8:30 pm at The Watchung Hills Regional High School, In The Watchung Hills Performing Arts Center located at 108 Stirling Road Warren, New Jersey 07059. This evening event will be free and open to the public. Parents/guardians and students are encouraged to attend.
In this very personal talk, former NBA star Chris Herren will share the story of his struggle with addiction in a brutally honest format. Mr. Herren was a high school basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, who scored over 2,000 career points and was named to the 1994 McDonald's All-American team. Herren realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and then was traded to his hometown team, the Boston Celtics in 2000.
Herren struggled with substance abuse for much of his basketball career. Alcohol and drug-free since August 1, 2008, he has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. During the presentation, he will take the audience on his journey from addiction to sobriety. Additionally, he will address themes of gateway drugs, prescription drug abuse, drinking and driving, as well as self-harm. To conclude the event, Chris will field questions from the audience.
In a shared commitment to promote wellness and prevent substance abuse in our community, this program is a collaboration between Watchung Hills Board of Education, Township of Warren, and Watchung Hills Municipal Alliance.
WHRMA serves the communities of Long Hill, Green Brook, Warren and Watchung by providing Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Abuse (ATOD) prevention services for community citizens, schools and municipal agencies.
Please make plans to attend this significant and free community-wide event.
