Grant Funding Opportunity for Somerset County-based Nonprofit Organizations Offering History Programs, Services

SOMERVILLE – Somerset County Freeholder Brian D. Levine has announced that the county Cultural & Heritage Commission is accepting grant applications for the 2018 State/County History Partnership Program. Letters of intent are due by Sept. 6; the application deadline is Sept. 27.

Designated as the official county agency to administer the New Jersey Historical Commission’s SCHPP grant for Somerset County, the commission welcomes applications from Somerset County-based nonprofit history and heritage organizations, as well as libraries, municipalities and other nonprofit organizations in Somerset County.

Grant funding may be requested for local or New Jersey history programs or special projects that are accessible to the general public or for general operating support for the 2018 calendar year.

Funding is competitive and organizations must demonstrate managerial competency, fiscal stability, excellence in history programming and organizational capacity to execute the proposed program or project.

Applicants are required to provide a match for funding requested. Organizations may request funding for general operating support if their mission is solely history-dedicated, or special project support for the purpose of offering a specific history program, event or series in Somerset County. Special project grant support may include documented, in-kind support as a portion of the match, if an all-cash contribution is not possible.

Grant applications must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. Applications may be mailed or dropped off to the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission, 20 Grove St., Second Floor, Somerville, NJ 08876. Office hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except Labor Day. Electronic submissions will not be accepted.

A brief letter of intent is due by Wednesday, Sept. 6, to the commission as a preliminary requirement of the grant process. Potential applicants must state on their letterhead, in a paragraph or two, the purpose for which the organization intends to apply for funding, and approximately how much money will be requested.
